Format of the event
"Mini Jaffa" is a summer evening incident hike and overnight camp for Scouts and Guides (core age 10-14).
Teams will arrive around 16:00 to 17:00 to check-in, and will then set up their tents for the night. Points are scored for how well their tent is erected.
Teams will be given a start time and a map with the positions of all the checkpoints. They must visit each checkpoint in the sequence given to them.
Teams will be penalised if they do not obey the Highway Code or the Country Code.
Upon arriving at each checkpoint the team will report to the marshal who radios back to base to indicate their safe arrival. The team will then have to undergo a series of challenges, scoring points as they do so.
The task is usually limited to a maximum 10 minutes with no more than 45 minutes walking between checkpoints. Typical incidents have included: getting a boat across a lake, building a tower, cooking something, mending or repairing something, word games and logic puzzles.
When teams return to base, they may be asked to perform another challenge, again for points.
When the hiking is complete, Scouts may retire for the evening and sleep (after supper)!
On the following morning, a light breakfast is served, followed by presentations.
